Why does a still initially produce methanol from ethanol distillate? is it a myth?

So im told if i were to make a still and gently heat a normal wine say, the first things the wine would produce is methanol (from the ethanol in the wine???) these are the heads, and finaly at the end the tails i also produce methanol! is this true? what would happen if i were to still all the product over again?
