Can I get your help with a lesson plan?

I am doing a lesson plan for a 7th grade cl (it's an English cl, but I am trying to cross it over with current events) where I use Time Magazine for Kids. Then, the students will pick a story (usually there are at least three news stories) and write a paragraph about the topic and what they thought about the story, What do you think? Any suggestions for improvement? I am planning on grading their pragraphs for grammatical errors, etc.
