I want to hold a silent auction where all proceeds are donated to a charity. How do I go about this?

I know costs may be high up front, but my plan would be to have a "dinner fee" to cover the cost of the room and the meal. Then all proceeds from the silent auction (which I would find companies to donate things) would go to Architecture for Humanity. My questions are...do I have to have an affiliation with the charity to hold something like this? I am not a part of this organization, I am just a strong supporter of what they do. Any info or stories of your similiar experiences would be very helpful!
